Issues in Prittelwell, Chalkwell & WestboroughQueen Annes Drive Post Office threatened with closureResidents who use the Queen Annes Drive post office face it's closure - not by the Post office itself, but by greedy developers who want to build a block of flats! Cllr Mike Grimwade LibDem member for Prittlewell Ward was shocked and horrified and could'nt believe his eyes when the recently received planning applications list revealed the application that threatens the closure of the sub post office on the corner of Prince Avenue & Queen Annes Drive. After checking with the Postmistress he was even more concerned to be told by her that she had not been consulted about the proposal by the developers. "In an era when residents and local councillors are fighting sub post office closure by the Post Office itself it is sad to find there are developers who will do it for them." said Cllr Grimwade "It is even sader that rather than replace one facility by another they are only interested in erecting a block of flats." He went on. "Closure would be a disaster for the many older residents that use one of the few remaining Sub Post Offices added Cllr Grimwade as he pledged to oppose any proposal which included such closure Post Office News (November 09)Post Office Safe - for a while! The applications for the changes above have all been thrown out and the Queen Annes Drive Post Office is safe for the time being. Let's hope that the developers will have a change of mind and incorporate the Post Office in any future proposals.
